BALI was founded in 1972 and is the national body representing Landscape Contractors in the United Kingdom. It is a founder member of the Joint Council for Landscape Industries which liaises with the Government on behalf of the Landscape Industry. In addition, BALI works closely with other associations and bodies in the construction, horticultural and land-based sectors.

BALI is based at Landscape House, National Agricultural Centre, Warwickshire and a strict code of conduct has been laid down for all BALI members. Membership of the Association is conditional upon adherence to this code and on the maintenance of satisfactory standards, which are subject to inspection and/or re-vetting at any time.

Gifford Homes and Gardens Limited adheres to BALI's strict code of practice and is a probationary member going through the rigourous two-year assessment procedure.
